Short and Easy

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless." (Mother Teresa)

If you are a woman who purchases Dior Eau de Parfum from Macy's Department Store, chances are that you may have seen the "For Love" commercial starring award-winning actress Natalie Portman. She portrays Miss Dior. She is a physically powerful, open-minded woman who is available to the unpredictable character of love and all it stands for.

As Sia's song, “Chandelier," plays in the background of this commercial, scenes featuring Miss Dior and her love interest arguing, holding hands, and running on a beach display the wide array of emotions connected with love. The narrator concludes this advertisement with this question to the viewing audience: “What Would You Do for Love?”

Matthew 9:34-36 (VOICE) tells us that one of the things Jesus did out of love was to communicate (both verbally and physically) with those the ill of His society because of His heart full of compassion. Jesus went through many towns and villages. He taught in their synagogues. He preached the good news of the kingdom of God.

He healed every disease and sickness. Whenever crowds came to Him, He had compassion for them because they were so deeply distraught, malaised, and heart-broken. They seemed to Him like lost sheep without a shepherd. If the Son of God walked the earth today, how would He respond to those who suffer from the consequences of any kind of trauma? (Here are five imaginary, but plausible modern-day quotes from Jesus.):

1.     “Your trauma doesn’t make Me uncomfortable. You aren’t too damaged for Me to relate to.”

2.     “Your wound wasn’t for nothing. There is purpose in your pain.”

3.     “The scars stay so they can tell a story.”

4.     “Depend on your doctors, but abide in Me.”

5.     “Your trauma doesn’t make Me uncomfortable. You aren’t too damaged for Me to relate to.

"Words are seeds that do more than blow around. They land in our hearts and not the ground. Be careful what you plant and careful what you say. You might have to eat what you planted one day." (Thinking out loud 2011) [i]
